Who I am

The Present of Contemporary Construction

Demattè's artistic present manifests itself as a journey into the depths of the theme ‘Contemporary Constructions’, a visual investigation that goes beyond material surfaces to explore the links between human beings and the context in which they live, with all its structures.
Demattè's extrovert and naturally empathetic nature translates into art that conveys the essence of constructions, be they architectural or emotional. This artistic series is a bold statement that mixes material and colour to create a visual narrative that challenges the viewer to curiously explore their perceptions of reality.

Demattè's ‘Contemporary Constructions’ represent movement, change and fluidity. Every detail is nothing but an act of exploration, an attempt to capture the ever-changing essence of the world around us. In this artistic present, the artist strives to capture the energy of contemporaneity, transforming it into works that invite reflection on the complexity of the foundational structures of modern life. Demattè combines his desire to explore the outside world with the profound introspection that characterises his work. These constructions, which can be physical or metaphorical, are a reflection of a constantly evolving artistic identity.
In this artistic present, Mirko Demattè continues to challenge the boundaries of contemporary art, inviting us to explore our inner and outer constructions and to contemplate the deeper meaning of the structures that define us as individuals and as a society.

Criticism

A suspended yet unpredictable atmosphere transpires in Mirko Demattè's works, the result of mature skills and consistency between artistic thought and expressive medium. It all stems from the careful observation of a cosmopolitan artist, a lover of travel, research and discovery, who has focused his entire production on social and cultural changes, both singular and universal, linking places and individuals, perceptions and inadvertences. The Trentino artist's recent experiments with Contemporary Constructions are characterised by a clear visual quality and investigate the potential of forms in a free and open space.
On closer inspection, the white background prevails in most of the panel compositions; it is not to be regarded as an inert space of contemplation, but as a place of action, free of prejudices and stylistic features: it highlights the potential of an organisational void, a veritable measuring instrument and catalyst of balances with which geometries in the making are shaped.
And it is precisely thanks to that ‘potential void’ that dynamic structures are realised through an elaboration of formal synthesis; the Constructions are part of human action, characterised by a stimulating visual play, composed of voids and solids, of metaphorical introspections that make us reflect on the processes of construction of the Self, on the continuous changes of self-definition of the contemporary individual and on the complex dynamics and social interactions. In contact with Demattè's works, one has the impression of exploring ideal metropolitan glimpses, living in a joint dimension: a hollow space in which there are anthropological traces in continuous redefinition, connection and metamorphosis.

The enamels and oxides, on the other hand, used in the works, give us the opportunity to reflect on the passage of time; they interact ineluctably with the form, they are placed before and after, they experience their own, continuous transformation, they recount the memory and the becoming that runs through our entire existence.

Concept and contemporaneity, therefore, advance in a skilful balance between light and dark, between black and white, between light and shadow, between informal chromatic agreements, playing on inverses and dialoguing in constant tension with the viewer. Moreover, an interpretative itinerary, articulated through subjective perception, is also clearly manifested in the sculptural works.

The evident momentum and solidity of the metal of the Constructions makes one reflect on the essence of the contemporary individual and its contradictions: lightness and gravity express all the energy of change of which man is capable, an alternation of feelings at first silently internalised, then externalised by processes that imply and superimpose action and reaction.
The works do not represent inauthentic life but existence, in its purity and uniqueness; they are the reflection of a genuine existentialism between fragility and resistance, between pliability and firmness, in which matter coagulates along the lines of human action and feeling.

For Demattè, geometric structures are the being, the auxiliary at the centre of an infinite period; in the theme of free space, they reveal an unprecedented critical interpretation, capable of questioning even the traditional relationship between density and emptiness, between space and time, between coming into being and becoming.
